The  Inaugural Inglewood Photography Festival Book Award:

A Transformative Opportunity for Emerging Photographers

Inglewood, CA - August 1, 2024 - The Inglewood Photography Festival is thrilled to announce the launch of its inaugural Book Award, an exciting new opportunity for emerging photographers to publish their first book. This prestigious award aims to shine a spotlight on the next generation of photographic talent, offering a platform to showcase their work on a global stage.

Entries for the contest will be accepted from September 7th through October 7th, 2024. Aspiring photographers are invited to submit a PDF of their book project, with a page size of 8 3/4 x 11 1/4 inches and a total of 60 to 96 pages. This is a rare chance for new voices in photography to present their vision to a wider audience.

The contest will be judged by two luminaries in the photography world: Everard Williams, Director of Art Center's Photography Department, and Nicholas Fahey, of the Fahey/Klein Gallery. Together, they will select one outstanding project that will be published by the Inglewood Photography Festival, propelling the winner's work into the international spotlight.

To fund this award, we are thrilled to partner with the Fahey/Klein Gallery in curating a charity auction that will support our inaugural book award.  The auction, which will be hosted on Artsy from September 10th through the 24th, features an exceptional selection of works by some of the most celebrated photographers in contemporary art. Proceeds from the auction will go directly toward funding the publication of an emerging photographer’s first book, alongside mentorship to help launch their fine art career.

The curated auction features works by renowned photographers – including Miles Aldridge, Janette Beckman, Julie Blackmon, Debra Bloomfield, Sylvie Blum, Nick Brandt, Greg Gorman, Paul Jasmin, Geof Kern, Douglas Kirkland, Frank Ockenfels 3, Ian Ruhter, Steve Schapiro, John Simmons, Randee St. Nicholas, Dan Winters, Magdalena Wosinska, and Bastiaan Woudt – who have generously contributed pieces that reflect the diversity and dynamism of modern photography.
.
In addition to having their book published, the winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize, mentorship from industry professionals to help launch their fine art photographic career, and an exclusive exhibition of their photography at the Inglewood Photography Festival in May 2025. This exhibition will not only celebrate the winner's achievement but also provide an unparalleled opportunity to connect with industry professionals and photography enthusiasts alike.

The Inglewood Photography Festival is not only committed to supporting emerging talent but also to bringing photographers from across the globe to exhibit their work in Inglewood. This effort to bring more art into the local community reflects the festival's mission to create a vibrant cultural exchange and foster a deeper appreciation for photography in Inglewood and beyond.

"The Inglewood Photography Festival is dedicated to elevating the art of photography and providing a platform for creative expression. We believe that this Book Award will serve as a significant stepping stone in the career of a deserving photographer," said the festival organizers.
